Renewable Energies Cubujuqui

The Cubujuquí Hydroelectric Power Plant is located in Horquetas de Sarapiquí, Heredia, North Atlantic corridor route 4. 

It has the capacity to generate 22.4 MW, equivalent to 20% of the energy demand in the North Zone.

This Hydroelectric Power Plant is located in Colonia Cubujuquí in Sarapiquí, Horquetas, it started production at the beginning of 2013, generating electricity for about 22,000 homes.

In the Hydroelectric Plant you will be able to know the process for the generation of Hydroelectric energy, knowing the function and importance of each of its equipment and components, there will also be a tour around the reservoir with the capacity to store 320,000 m2 of water, which allows an efficient generation of 4 to 5 hours, in addition, will know the fish ladder in the water in take, uniquein Latin America, the fish ladder allows them to freely continue on their way.

Additionally, solar panels and wind turbines are installed; with the a im of showing on a small scale, the generation from other clean sources.

As acomplementary attraction, the Carbon Tour is included; By visiting the Carbon capture sample plots, you will learn to do a practice of measuring and sampling Carbon fixed in the forest.

At the endof this tour, visitors will be able to taste a delicious traditional lunch witha panoramic view of the reservoir.
