On the properties acquired by Coopelesca through the supportive contribution of its associates, there are sites of great scenic beauty and important historical remembrance of the socio-environmental struggles of the San Carlos people.

The Coopelesca Tours project was born with the objective of giving continuity to buy land for conservation in the territory of Juan Castro Blanco National Water Park (PNAJCB) of Coopelesca. In such a way that, Coopelesca Tours is not a for-profit project, on the contrary, it is constituted to reinvest in conservation.

Coopelesca partners with APANAJUCA to make available to tourists the visit to the majestic Pozo Verde lagoon and the experience of walking in the Cloud Forest, a few minutes from Ciudad Quesada. 

In addition, strategic alliances are created with Coopehuetar and Coopecubujuquí to promote tourist visits to the Coopelesca Power Generation Stations, as an engine to boost local economies and a powerful tool for environmental education.

The Association for the development of the Juan Castro Blanco National Water Park (APANAJUCA) was legally established in 1998, it is a non-governmental, conservationist, rural, non-political and non-profit organization.  APANAJUCA is established to support the management, administration, protection, consolidation and development of the protected wild area of the Juan Castro Blanco National Water Park (PNAJCB). It works in search of financial resources, donations and cooperation of organizations for conservation purposes, both governmental and non-government national and international.

This Association is administratively active with the contribution of its members and aid from some companies in the North Zone. Thanks to the efforts of its affiliates, APANAJUCA managed to recover 7000 ha from the PNAJCB that had been fraudulently registered with the National Registry. Today, these lands are part of the natural heritage of the State.

What is Coopelesca?

Coopelesca is the Cooperativa de Electrificación Rural de la Zona Norte, founded on January 24, 1965. It has a concession area of 4,770 km², 100% electrified and more than 104,000 thousand Associates.

Coopelesca is the Cooperativa de Electrificación Rural de la Zona Norte, founded on January 24, 1965.

It has a concession area of 4,770 km², 100% electrified and more than 104,000 thousand Associates.

It produces 90% of energy with its own renewable sources, through 5 hydroelectric plants and a Cooperative Solar Park. In addition, it has 100% public lighting with LED technology.

It offers Info-communication services (Internet-Cable TV), helping to reduce the digital divide in the North Zone. In addition, it offers the sale of electrical appliances and materials for Associates in five physical warehouses and one virtual warehouse and, in partnership with the INS, facilitates the acquisition of insurance.

Coopelesca has its own means of communication. TVN Canal 14 is a free and open signal medium that promotes culture, education and entertainment for our people.

In 2013, Coopelesca was declared the first Carbon Neutral Cooperative in Latin America, it is recognized by the

Government of the Republic in the Carbon Neutrality category, which it has maintained for 7 consecutive years. It compensates its carbon footprint with its own forests.

Since 2012, Associates have invested ₡ 200 per month in their electricity bill for the protection of the Juan Castro Blanco National Water Park. 1,136 have been purchased to protect the important water resource that is born in this Sacred Mountain and the preservation of the flora and fauna.

Coopelesca advances with a vision of the future and a strategy aimed at providing excellent quality services to Associates.

COOPEHUETAR R.L., is a model cooperative in the provision of general services, which began its operation in 2016, providing services to COOPELESCA R.L. and CONELECTRICAS RL, in the north of the country

COOPEHUETAR R.L., is a model cooperative in the provision of general services, which began its operation in 2016, providing services to COOPELESCA R.L. and CONELECTRICAS RL, in the north of the country, currently has 45 employees and is the engine of development of the community of La Vieja de Florencia de San Carlos, where among other things, they managed to participate in the Blue Flag Program and obtained two flags.

Currently the Cooperative has just started a Community Rural Tourism project in which it intends to incorporate other members of the community into economic activity, improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of this beautiful community.

For the workers and associates of COOPEHUETAR R.L., this cooperative represents a model of life that allows families to grow and develop at a social and economic level.

Coopecubujuquí is a multi-service cooperative company made up of men and women from the community of Colonia Cubujuquí, Horquetas de Sarapiquí, which is located in the North Caribbean of Costa Rica.

We are a cooperative that creates new and better services, to satisfy daily the expectations of our associates, clients, suppliers, and collaborators. While respecting the social, labor and environmental environment.

CoopecubujuquÍ associates have been trained as tourist guides in topics such as renewable energies, bird tourism, and carbon fixation of the humid tropical forest, also offering their culture of traditional cuisine, crafts and knowledge of biodiversity and landscape.

This cooperative has been characterized by its multiple training in the areas of occupational health, customer service, cooperative model, functions of its governing bodies, marketing, finance, teamwork, food handling, among others. All this with the aim of being better
